Senators Introduces Bill to Increase Tax Deductions on Charitable Donations

The Charitable Act receives bipartisan support.

Senators James Lankford of Oklahoma and Chris Coons of Delaware recently introduced the Charitable Act which is receiving bipartisan support. The legislation would allow deductions for charitable donations on tax filings while taking a standard deduction.

“Right now, the only people that get a chance to be able to write off their taxes, their charitable donations, are the folks that itemize, “ said Senator Lankford. “Most people don’t itemize their taxes, so there’s no incentive to be able to give to nonprofits through our tax code.”

Seeing it as a way to reduce dependence on the government, Senator Lankford said, “The safety net is not the government. The first safety net is families. The second safety net are churches, nonprofits.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For senators and representatives who seek to incentivize charitable giving for taxpayers.
  • For the freshman members of the House and Senate as they prepare to take office.
